PUSHKAR
Pushkar is one of the oldest cities of India. In Hindu mythology it is said that the gods released a swan with a lotus in its beak and let it fall on earth. The site where the lotus fell was called Pushkar and it is believed that the creator God, Brahma performed a grand fire ceremony here. Known as ‘the rose garden of Rajasthan’, the essence of the famous Pushkar rose is exported all over the world. Along with an interesting mythological history, a legacy of timeless architectural heritage makes Pushkar a fascinating city. Also, the place gained popularity due to the organisation of one the most unususal fairs in the world, the Pushkar camel fair. It is one of the world's largest cattle fairs. Apart from the buying and selling of livestock, various other attractive competitions are organised, such as the ‘matka phod’, ‘longest moustache’ and ‘bridal competition’ which are the main draws for this fair.
